For ten days in September over 150 people gather in Barmouth to participate in an extensive programme of walks, led by knowledgeable, local guides and ranging from short half day rambles to full day, high level hikes intended for experienced walkers. The festival programme includes over 35 graded walks, providing the opportunity to try little known routes as well as some of the most popular walks in the area.
This weekend of real ale (including local brews), live music and splendid Welsh hospitality is always popular. It all takes place in the picturesque village of Llanbedr on the banks of the Artro river, approximately seven miles north of Barmouth.

It starts on the sandy beach of Barmouth, and takes swimmers underneath Barmouth Bridge, a mile and an iconic half wide railway bridge. The first part of the swim is up the wide and sandy estuary with mountains on either side, and then it’s through ‘the narrows’ and into a more sheltered part of the estuary.
The whole swim takes place on a fast, incoming Spring tide that works like a bore to assist your swim. Past the narrows the water speeds up further, and the landscape becomes pastoral, the banks closer to you.
The swim ends at Penmaenpool, where you will get changed, gather for hot food and to warm up on fire pits, and celebrate.
